KPHA 2022 Annual Conference, Sept. 29


The theme for the 2022 Kansas Public Health Association (KPHA) annual conference, held in Wichita, was “Engage, Collaborate, Grow: Strengthening the Kansas Public Health System.” Ed O’Malley, President and CEO of the Kansas Health Foundation, was keynote speaker. Kari Bruffett participated in the keynote panel discussion, “Exploring the Need for a More Coordinated and Robust Public Health Action and Research Agenda in Kansas.” Tatiana Lin, Samiyah Para-Cremer Moore, and Rebecca Adamson (KDHE) led a breakout session on “Allocation of Medical Resources in Times of Scarcity.”


 

Leadership Kansas Class, Sept. 23



Linda Sheppard led a discussion on current health policy issues in Kansas with the Leadership Kansas class at their recent meeting in Overland Park. Leadership Kansas is a statewide program that was designed to enhance and motivate future leaders from various Kansas communities.

KHI attended the KC Current women’s soccer game on Sunday, Sept. 25. It was a great way to spend an afternoon with family & friends.

Staff Board Meeting, July 29-30


Kansas Health Institute Board of Directors and executive KHI staff engaged in important conversations about racism and health equity at their annual retreat held at Circle S Ranch & Country Inn. Guest speakers included Jeff Usher with the Kansas Health Foundation, New York Times best-selling author Mark McCormick with ACLU of Kansas, and Kevin Willmott, Academy Award winning film director, screenwriter, and professor at the University of Kansas. They also took a field trip to Watkins Museum of History to learn more about Lawrence’s tumultuous past.
