KHI announces New Board Member - Robert Garner
Robert Garner has accepted the position of KHI Board member.
Robert Garner is CEO/President at Youth Horizons, a faith-based organization known for its mentoring and teen residential services programs. Youth Horizons operates one of the largest residential services programs for displaced teens in the Wichita community.
Robert began his career in education as an Accounting and Business Studies Teacher, followed by 17 years of serving as an Assistant Principal and Principal. He broadened his scope of leadership by serving for six years as the Executive Director of Secondary Education for Wichita Public Schools, one of the largest school districts in the Midwest, serving more than 50,000 students. In that role, Robert was responsible for assisting in providing full leadership and operational support to all secondary schools and many programs. He collaborated with district staff and stakeholders to support student academic growth and development. He was committed to working with school and district leaders to celebrate district, school and individual accomplishments in reaching student learning goals. He also assisted in the implementation of programs and strategies to build capacity throughout the entire educational system.
Robert has had great success with his work around closing the achievement gap and has presented at several national conferences on this issue. He has worked in high-poverty schools, where he achieved double digit gains in both reading and math for three consecutive years and earned the Standard of Excellence award while serving as the Principal for Brooks Center for STEM and the Arts Magnet Middle School. Robert also has received several professional awards as a District Administrator. He has served in a leadership role for Community Education Day and as a member of the Business Educators Alliance task force. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for Leadership Wichita.
A native of Wichita, Robert earned undergraduate degrees in business administration and secondary education, a master’s degree in school and district-level leadership, and superintendent licensure credentials from Wichita State University.

Cathy McNorton - Senior Communication Specialist and Publications Strategist
Congratulations Cathy McNorton on your new position as Senior Communication Specialist and Publications Strategist.
In her new role, she will be a member of the leadership team and will manage the publication process, develop and implement strategies to improve it, and examine current product types for refinement and/or develop new product types. In April Cathy will celebrate her 19th year at KHI.

Quantitative Research Analyst - Candidates for the Quantitative Research Analyst position should have a master’s degree in health services research, public health, statistics, biostatistics, economics, social science, or a relevant discipline, although comparable experience will be considered. Candidates should demonstrate experience in applied research and be familiar with a variety of research methods. Proficient skill in SAS or a comparable statistical programming language is required, and experience with data visualization is desirable. Quantitative Research Assistant - Candidates for the Quantitative Research Assistant position should have a bachelor’s degree in health, public health, social sciences or a relevant discipline, although comparable experience will be considered. Candidates should demonstrate experience in acquiring data from public sources, organizing and preparing data for analysis and illustrating data with graphics. Proficient skill in Microsoft Excel is required. Experience with data analytics, data visualization and using statistical programming language, such as SAS and R, is desirable. Senior Analyst, Public Health - The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in public health or a related field and 10 years of experience, including at least five years in state or local public health. The candidate will also have knowledge of the core functions, essential services, principles, and practices involved in contemporary public health, as well as public health data and policy. Candidates with experience in strategic planning, facilitation, performance improvement, change management, and community health assessment and improvement planning will be well-suited for this position. Food Drive for Harvesters
KHI staff collected 91 pounds of food which will provide 76 meals to those who really need them. Thank you to everyone that donated and special kudos to Lyndsey, Stewart and Nancy for getting boxes set up, making poster, directing people for donation and pick-up and sharing with our second-floor tenants.
ELL Update
Thank you to all staff who participated in the first four sessions of our ELL Learning Series.
These discussions on racism and health equity have been valuable, and we look forward to continuing! Two more sessions are scheduled in 2023.
