2023 KHI Board Meeting, in Wichita

On April 28, the KHI board of directors held its quarterly meeting in Wichita. Staff members shared the latest on new and ongoing initiatives, along with progress being made on the organization's strategic plan. The previous evening, as well as in the afternoon of April 28, the KHI board met with board members and staff from the Kansas Health Foundation and the Kansas Leadership Center for the first Triangle board convening since before the pandemic. It provided a great opportunity for the three organizations to think about how to collaborate and leverage our respective strengths to improve the health of Kansans.

Olivia was introduced to her KHI family on June 21 when they stopped by KHI to chat with the staff. Everyone was delighted at seeing Olivia for the first time.

Volunteers Needed for Meals on Wheels

KHI volunteers are still needed to deliver Meals on Wheels on the third and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Pick up begins at 11 a.m., at 1112 SW Sixth Ave. Go to the back of the building to pick up the coolers. The number of recipients varies but the bulk of deliveries are made in under an hour.

Did You Know: For each hour of personal time you spend on community volunteer service, KHI will allocate, on an hour-for-hour basis, up to a maximum of eight hours per six-month period to community volunteer service. Use of volunteer time must be approved by your supervisor in advance in the same way that other leave requests are processed.

KHI in the News

The Wichita Eagle by Jonathan Shorman - June 8, 2023

Yahoo! News by Jonathan Shorman - June 8, 2023

The federal government pays 90% of the cost of expansion, while states pick up the rest, but in 2021 Congress included increased financial incentives to non-expansion states as part of a COVID-19 aid package. The Kansas Health Institute, a Topeka-based nonprofit focused on health policy and research, has estimated the new incentives would save about $200 million a year in costs.

Yahoo! News by Katie Bernard - June 9, 2023

“This is their first chance to make their mark in terms of incorporating any lessons learned or requirements into these new contracts,” said Sheena Schmidt an analyst at the Kansas Health Institute, a nonpartisan research organization.

KCTV by Jenna Barackman - June 12, 2023

The announcement comes after last year the Kansas Health Institute found the state had the tenth highest youth suicide rate for adolescents aged 15-24, and ranked 11th in youth suicide for those aged 10-14.
