Check out these adorable KHI pets!!
Nancy’s son Tyler and Rufus
Rufus is a rescue puppy that we got in December 2020 from Always and Furever Animal Sanctuary when he was 10 months old, and he was skin and bones. They picked him up from a kill shelter in Wichita.
Wendy’s Poof and Puffles
Poof (brown) turns 4 in May, and Puffles (Black tri) is 4 years old.
Linda’s Roxy and Bear
We unexpectedly lost one of our Basset hounds back in January to cancer. We went looking for another dog to rescue and couldn’t find another Basset of a fairly young age anywhere within 500 miles so went a different route and adopted Roxy, who is an absolutely beautiful, three-year-old boxer/shepherd mix. Roxy is 67 pounds and has a typical boxer body with really long legs and a shepherd face. She is almost a “perfect” dog except for one little characteristic that I won’t speak of in polite company. Two weeks after we adopted Roxy we got a call about a basset that had just become available in Des Moines.
Bear (not sure why she was named that by her original owner, but it seems to suit her) is a very overweight Basset who is currently on a strict diet to lose at least 15 pounds. Our vet said she looks like a manatee. She is quite goofy and provides us with reasons to laugh at her size as she waddles and runs through the house. So now - with Sydney (a 12-pound Schoodle) and Baxter (our other Basset) – we’re a four-dog family. Our monthly dog food bill has grown exponentially!
Lyndsey’s Topper and Bitsy
Bitsy is a 7-year-old Min-Pin/Chihuahua mix, loves to sneak people food, burrow under covers to sleep, and is a true “mama’s boy.” Topper is an 8-week-old Boston Terrier/Chihuahua mix, loves to explore his new house, bug his big “brother” Bitsy, and is a true “daddy’s boy." As you can see, Nyla Rose, my granddaughter, is obsessed with both of them.
Miranda’s Jake and Jinx
Jake was being fostered by a neighbor when we found each other; I think he’s about 13 years old. He’s very sweet and loves to watch TV, esp. Animal Planet. Jinx is still a puppy, and it didn’t take her long to grow larger than Jake. She is a German Wirehaired Pointer and loves to fetch sticks from the pond (luckily her coat dries exceedingly fast!).
Wyatt’s Biscuit
At left, Biscuit enjoys lounging with "Dad.” He also enjoys treats and pushing all the pillows off the couch, just for fun.
