Staff Spotlight: Linda Sheppard, Senior Analyst & Strategy Team Leader

What has been your favorite project?

Despite the insane amount of time it takes, I continue to enjoy Legislative Monitoring and HATC. Glutton for punishment, I guess. However, I get a lot of satisfaction out of just about everything I do here at KHI.

What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

A long time ago, at the start of my adult work life, my boss (who to this day is still one of my favorite people) told me that my job was to make him look good. And what he meant by that is that it is my job to anticipate and determine what my boss would want me to do, that I find ways to be helpful in any way I can, and that my performance enhances the reputation and standing of the organization. In other words, make them glad they hired me. I have lived by that philosophy to this day.

What do you do when you are not working?

In addition to parenting Kayden, I am blessed that my parents are still alive and well and live here in Lawrence and my siblings all live in Kansas. Spending time with family (including my dogs) is a big part of my life. I also enjoy reading, playing my piano, and watching a bit of TV.

Where’s your favorite place in the world?

Home. I've been to lots of places that I really enjoy but home is the best.

If you could have any superpower what would it be?

Kayden just asked me this the other day and I told him that it would be great to be able to fly like a bird.

What is one food that you cannot resist?

Pasta.
