Staff Spotlight: Lyndsey Burkhart, Event Coordinator/Communication Assistant

What has been your favorite project?

I have a unique position in that I don't work intensely in specific projects, but rather get to be a part of the planning and logistics for those that have an associated meeting or convening. Each are unique and with every one we learn a little something new to take away in planning future events. For me though, seeing the Learning Center "project" through its conception, design and implementation has been the thing I've most enjoyed and am so proud of.

What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Failure is not always fatal. Mistakes happen in work and life and the best thing you can do is learn from them and do better next time. In my eyes, grace, respect and acknowledgment go a long way to ensure success!

What do you do when you are not working?

I'm a bit of an extroverted introvert, and that includes doing things that make my home environment comfortable and enjoyable for both myself and family and friends who visit. Baking, gardening (all the plants!), cleaning and decorating, creating art — all while listening to great music, of course. I'm a big fan of random, spontaneous road trips, camping and working out. But nothing warms my heart more than spending time with my three best girls: Chloe, Nyla and Journi.

Where’s your favorite place in the world?

Well I haven't been everywhere yet (😉), but in all the places I have traveled inside the US and out, New Orleans is easily my favorite. I love everything about it: the music, the culture, the sights, and of course, the food! It just fits my personality and soul to the core. Bucket list place though: Alaska. Something about the last frontier just fascinates and intrigues me. Can't wait to go.

If you could have any superpower what would it be?

I'm not sure if it's considered a “superpower," but if time-travel were a real thing, I'd be all over it. I try to live in the "no regrets," "everything happens for a reason" headspace, but there are certain moments in time I'd like to go and relive again or redo better than before. Really relish in the special times with special people. Hear that baby laugh one more time or hug that family member who is no longer with us. For now, those just have to live in my dreams and memories ❤️

What is one food that you cannot resist?

I'm a sucker for a good bowl of chili. Really haven't met one I don't love yet! Still, I pretty much enjoy all foods and trying new things in new places. I'm also known to do a "food dance" when I'm really into it, a sign of a good meal!
