Internal learning and engagement opportunities
In our EPC, we have prioritized staff development and discussions around equity. In October, we’re planning to kick off our sessions covering topics within the set of modules and other resources that have been available to us through the ELL. The goal for these sessions is for all of us to have a new sense awareness and understanding about equity, and to think about how this impacts the work we are doing.
Through these conversations on topics such as structural racism, health equity, and leading organizational change, we expect that it will feel uncomfortable at times. It will give us each an opportunity to grow, both personally and as an organization. As a reminder, our ELL sessions are not mandatory. Individuals must opt in to engage in the personal reflection needed to learn and grow on these issues.
Our ELL core team has been thoughtful in its approach to setting the criteria for selecting the components of the modules - shorter pieces that are most relevant to our work. Stay tuned for details on how you can engage in this effort.
'Are our policies equitable?'
This update on the policy review task was described in our September all-staff meeting, and it’s worth outlining here for reference. We want to know: Are our policies equitable? This is a project of the ELL EPC and will take place in phases. Thankfully, we will have our ELL coach, Ryan, conducting the survey of staff so we all have a chance to weigh in on this important question, by looking at the policies more closely and through a diverse lens.
This applies to all internal policies at KHI. Under a mixed method approach, a survey will be conducted first, then there will either be focus group sessions or key informant interviews. We will need to dive deeper into the policies to determine if there are any parts that present inequitable conditions for anyone impacted.
Outcomes from the survey and other methods will lead to a set of recommendations for changes in our policies. All staff will have the opportunity to take part in developing the recommendations. The process is scheduled to take place through January 2022. Overall, this project will not only improve our internal policies but give us practical experience we can apply in external projects.
Thank you for your continued input!
